Nem halni kell, de élni ma már
s életet adni -- gyermeket
s nem gyermeteg gondolatokkal
sirba küldeni hitet és nemzetet.

Nem meghalni, hanem tenni akarok hazámért!
Nem hõs akarok lenni, hanem szolga.
S nem szolgai.
Eszem diktálta tetteimmel fogok nektek
bizonyítani.

Nem meghalni, hanem tenni akarok õseimért,
nem meghalni akarok, hanem tenni a fiamért,
unokámért és dédunokámért élni és tenni kell.
A halott többé már nem tesz és nem beszél.
Múltam sejtjeimben e pillanatban is él
s nem feledem.
Jövõm az eszemmel mérhetõ csupán,
mert belõlem fakad élet és halál.
Eszemmel tudom már:

Nem halni kell, de élni ma már
s életet adni – gyermeket
s nem gyermeteg gondolatokkal
sírba küldeni hitet és nemzetet.

One must not die, but one must live
and life to a child must be given and saved;
by childish thoughts one must not send
our faith and nation to the grave.

Let me not die, but do and exist for my country;
let me not be a hero or servile slave,
but let me just serve my homeland.
My deeds shall be ruled by my reason,
and my deeds will be proof to you all.
Thus I must not die, but cherish my forefathers,
as I must not die, but live and do for my son,
for grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well!
The dead indeed shall do or speak for naught!
My past lives in my tissues constantly,
yet unforgotten too.
My future can be measured by my mind,
for life and death pour out of me as one;
my mind so knows the truth:

One must not die, but one must live,
and life to a child must be given and saved;
by childish thoughts one must not send
our faith and nation to the grave.

Non si deve morire, ma vivere oggi ormai,

e dare la vita – un bambino

e non con pensieri bambineschi

mandare a tomba fede e nazioni.

Non morire, ma agire per la patria!

Non eroe, ma servo voglio essere,

E non servile.

Vi testimoniero` con dei fatti

dettati dalla mia mente.

Non morire, piuttosto fare qualcosa per gli avi miei,

non morire voglio, ma fare, qualcosa per il figlio

mio, per il nipote e pronipote vivere e agire.

Il morto ormai non parla, non agisce.

Non scordo il mio passato, vive anche adesso

nelle mie cellule.

Il mio divenire e` misurabile solo dalla mia

mente, perché da me nascono vita e morte.

La mia mente lo sa gia`:

Non morire si deve, ma vivere ormai,

e vita dare – un bambino

e non con pensieri bambineschi

mandare a tomba fede e nazioni.
